Art challenge: New coin-op fighters, enlist!
The idea for this was sparked by a drawing piece by nx-3000.
No, this is not about picking your favourite King Of Fighters (KOF) and putting yourself in him/her. That'd just be vanilla fanart, wouldn't it? Too easy. Here's the deal: ----- (1) Pick up a character you have, most likely your own fursona. Something from friends is okay, just get permission, and make sure he/she ain't doing this same thing for that character. (2) Redesign him/her/it into a fighter that can reasonably fit into the KOF (or other similarly stylish fighting games) universe. Be whimsical, make it obscenely cool and stylish, or dark and odd, just have fun with it. Add wild weapons. Dress him up in duct tape. Who cares where he got the hungry-ghost-powered chopstick of death? It might not totally mesh with KOF and such, but just keep in mind that it has to work as a fighting-game character. You might also want to do a little backstory for him/her, something of a "spinoff" chapter. It's alright if you're not up to it, though. (3) Done, right? Not quite. Think up at least two special moves and one Super move. Get as demure or as ohmifreakingod flashy as you think is appropriate. If you're not a writer, a simple description would be enough. If you're an artist, why not render your fighter doing one of those moves? If you are even more rajin and know enough about combos, a few button sequences would add to the experience. Use a KOF system, but if you're more familiar with others (like Capcom's?) go ahead with 'em. (4) Post what you've got here. Pics, biodata, descriptions, moves lists... what have you. (5) If you're an artist/writer/whatever, feel free to pick from the characters in this thread and work with them. Give due credit to the creators, of course. And if you're a game designer... I want to have your babies... kidding! But you know what I mean. Got stock here. ------ That said, this thread is also open to discussions or just rambling nonsense. Not just for submissions. I'm bad at certain formal crap. I haven't been part of enough art challenges, but I hope this'll spark up some nice stuff. I'll start with mine as soon as the final exams let up. Later, guys. Adieu. freakish... I mean, good idea.
Those things like 2D fighting combo or platform game moves used to appear in my mind very often. About time to draw one.

Great idea on doing the challenge. I had actually had some ideas like this to create fighting characters based on personal fursona. Will take up to this challenge then.

I think i would also take up the challenge..although it might be long before you actually witness what it looks like.
But since this is something that at least i can focus on when i have absolutely nothing to do,it sounds perfectly good to me! ~wuffers from Kai Whitewolf~ |

Hmmm. Sounds like a good plan, it's pretty interesting to give it a try
![]() Although i'm thinking that with KOF style characters (Well, i know that we're focusing on Fighter games in general, but i might as well bring this up), aren't they mostly guys in normal , modern day clothes with super powers ? Like chucking fire and stuff like that ? XD |

If I was able to pick up a pencil and actually draw, my character would most likely have the stance and some of the powers of BlackHeart from the Marvel vs. Capcom games.

To NeoHaven,
Sure, but there's that little element of odd coolness about the whole thing that superheroes often don't truly own up. Despite looking okay-dressed at first glance, KOF peeps have quite an odd idea of fashion. And (eep, I'm starting a sentence with "and" ) anyway, if KOF is too "normal" for you, no harm going in the way of Capcom style or even, ohmigodivas, Guilty Gear. To DJ, As related to step number (4), even if you're not an artist, you're welcome to post textual descriptions, character data, moves and such details and perhaps the artists here might want to take your character up and draw him. ----- Exams lull, so I'm getting to sketches and scribbles too. Hm-hm-hmmm-hm-hm-Kusari Katana, lightnin' hurts your brudda... hm-hm-hmm... [ Proceed calmly. ] DevianTART BlogsPot |

Here's mine. Design of character is done, but still a little rough.
